Seriously? Seriously?!

Thanks to Liz for getting me back on my blog. Honestly, it's just been a rough several months and I didn't want to just whine and complain. So what's bringing me out of blog hibernation? A dating story that may be construed as whining and complaining, so for that I apologize.

A month or so ago my dear friend Morgan visited from AZ. She came with her boyfriend and a friend and we went to Thai food. Had a blast and it was great to see Morgan again. She was one of my favorites up at school--we share a love for Disney movies, Scrabble, the Business School, and getting group projects (of which we worked on quite a few!) done as early as humanly possible. Love the girl. We chatted about dating and all that fun stuff while she was here and, when she got back to AZ, she asked if I'd be interested in being set up with a friend of hers.

Of course! I'm willing to take any and all help I can get in the dating department and knowing Morgan as I do and trusting her as I do, bring it on! She described this guy she knew to me and it sounded like it'd be fun. So I told her I was in. I got a text from her this week saying she talked to the guy and he was totally down. He told her his family had a beach house in Southern CA so it'd work out well for a visit.

The next morning, I got a message from Morgan along the lines of, "So, this guy is LAME. Pretty sure he looked you up on Facebook and isn't interested, because now he's telling me he doesn't think he'll be going out to CA anytime soon, and he'll be with his family the whole time when he does, blah blah blah. He's a jerk. And I'm sorry."

Snap! That stings. But wait! There's more . . .

"He had the guts to ask me, 'So do you have any cute and happy friends you could set me up with?'"

Snap! That stings again.

I realize I'm no model but I try and work with what I've got and I've spent plenty of time developing myself so that I can have a lot to offer someone. What's frustrating is the unfortunate sense of entitlement I see out there, especially from single men in the Church. I've seen many a 4 or a 5 who continually go after the 10s and don't understand that they aren't anywhere near the same level, yet they keep going for it. If you want an Angelina Jolie, you'd better be darn close to a Brad Pitt, right? And vice versa.

One of my friends has been dating someone outside the Church for the last month and she is overjoyed with how well she's being treated (and, it should be noted, none of the guys in the ward have paid her any attention which is a shame because she's beautiful and awesome and smart). She's being courted, he's attentive, he loves her intelligence and he treats her incredible well . . . it's been really fun to see.

Now, I realize this is a one-off situation and I'm going to keep chugging along and developing and bettering myself. But sometimes, it just sucks. So I had one day this week where it sucked and it hurt and then, luckily, the next day I was fine.

But I'd love to know: Those of you out there single or married . . . what advice would you offer someone navigating single-dom?
