The Prayer Whisperer Strikes Again
She's baaaack! She prayed again today in D&C. She must REALLY be more spiritual than I, because there was only, what, 1.5 weeks in between her in-class prayers?

Beauty and the Beast
I'm apparently trying to set a record for how long I can be really sick with a cold. What kind of record is this? Anyway, my friend Morgan (and group member in two of my classes) has had to deal with my sexy phlegm (FRIENDS reference!) coughing and sneezing and being plugged up the last couple of days at school. She emailed asking if there was anything she could do. Knowing her love of Disney movies, I asked if she had Beauty and the Beast; she didn't, but said she'd pick it up from the library that day and drop it off--how sweet is that?
LittleSister came over to watch it (she's been cute and checking up on me every day, bringing over movies and cookies--you're the best, LS!), and it was so fun! Then Maggie came over after a date, and she said a classic line. Maggs, the same disclaimer you said to me in your latest blog applies to you here. This is all said in love, with a side of laughter.
Referring to the Disney animated classics of our childhood: "Those movies made me who I am today." Maggie, we heart you! (and feel free to leave the context in the comments)

You know something's wrong when . . .
. . . you see that it's 32 degrees outside today, and you think, "Finally, it's warm again!"

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING!
When clicking on the weather for Laguna Hills, California--yes, I like to punish myself--I'll see something like SEVERE WEATHER WARNING! Do you know what that means? Most of the time, absolutely nothing. Perhaps some wind. Perhaps some rain. But really, anything severe is rare. Then we get the fires or the mudslides or earthquakes or something really drastic every five-to-ten years or so to make up for the lack of complete non-weather for so long.
But if you watch the news, you'd get a whole different image, seeing something like, STORM WATCH 2008, only to find out you'll be getting an 1/8th of an inch of rain. It's awesome.
I miss home.

More Than A Whisper
In my D&C class on Thursday, the girl stood up to give the opening prayer, and what came out of her mouth could barely be described as a whisper. It was obviously her spiritual voice, since she sounded nothing like that before or after the prayer, but it was so hilarious to me that I had to hold back laughter pretty much the entire prayer. Brooke's response to my telling of this story?
"it's because she's more righteous than you, laura."
(lower-case letters used for full brooke effect)
Classic Brooke.

A Little Disconcerting
Today at church this really weird guy in our ward ended up sitting next to us, specifically yours truly. This was plenty awkward as it was just because he's weird, but what made it more weird is when he started singing alto. *I* sing alto. It's a little odd when a guy sings alto.
Right? Right? (that was for you, Kerry. And I owe you a phone call, asap. Hopefully tomorrow.)

My Earthy Crunchiness Comes Out
I try really hard not to be obnoxious with my political beliefs and, especially, my beliefs when it comes to health and healing (I do realize that a very earthy-crunchy Republican isn't the most common of folks). Having said that, there's this new documentary out called "The Business of Being Born" that looks really intriguing to me. I don't know what it's rated and I haven't seen it, but based on the preview and the few things I've read on it, it looks *fascinating.* Not everyone will agree with its premise, to be sure, but I can't wait to see it.
And for whatever reason, I can't get the link feature to work, but head to www.thebusinessofbeingborn.com/ if you want to catch the trailer.

Money
These are some classic lines from one of my very favorite people today while we were at Tucano's. Loves!
"I hate cash. It's so annoying! If something's under $10, then fine, but buying clothes with cash just doesn't do it for me. You know what I don't like about it? It's so bulky."

Classes rock!
So I'm officially done with my first full week of classes (if no-class-on-Fridays counts), and while I've already been crazy busy (hello group presentations, and papers, and assignments, and the like) and have been working until usually 10 or 11 pm every night, I'm LOVING my classes. I'm on top of the schedule, I'm being efficient on my assignments, and my classes are FUN and INTERESTING.
Let's see how long it lasts. It's one week so far. I'm hoping it even lasts two weeks. If it lasts the whole semester, it might just be the best semester ever.

Brother Fluhman Quotes
Brother Fluhman is my favorite professor ever, and today I started my fifth class from him. Yeah, he's that good. Here were a couple classics from today:
“I studied Biblical Arabic, and my senior year I figured out that language was HARD, so I bailed. I caught the Church History bug.”
“I like to name my kids. I tell my wife, ‘You get the wonderful experience of childbirth. What do I get? What’s my payoff?’ So I get to name the kids.”
“Pig, Jig, Phyllis—let’s go!” Brother Fluhman to his kids, none of whom have any of those names.
“What is this texting? So someone explained it to me, and they’re writing little letters.”
“Mid-lecture, I walked up the isle, turned around and saw everyone’s laptops. One was checking fantasy football scores, another was checking the stock market, and I got what I think was some dude watching The Bourne Supremacy.”

Things That Make Me Happy . . .
. . . Today while walking along to class, I saw some paw prints in the snow. Precious! I LOVE paws and paw prints. Little things like this make me ridiculously happy.
Job Interviews
I went on my first in-person job interview on Friday (and a very last-minute one at that--thank heavens I had my suit with me, and an extra pair of dress shoes at home!). I think it went really well, and it wasn't intense at all thanks to the fact that it's for a marketing firm in Orange County. But afterwards, I found myself thinking, "I think that went well. I hope I didn't say anything stupid," and saying other things like, "He said he's going to call, so he's going to, right?"
Shoot, this is just like dating. Darnit!

The Famous Egg-White Exchange
In our extended family, we have the famous egg-white exchange story, where my aunt Jo's cheapness (this is SO beyond frugality) has coined a Jergensen cultural term. Read on.
"Have you ever priced eggs? If not, they are approximately 89 cents per dozen or roughly 7 cents an egg. Consider the following dilemma: On Monday Mom (Jo) is making a recipe that calls for egg yokes and Peg is planning on making a recipe sometime this week that calls for egg whites . . . she's flexible on the day (how they know this about each other, we cannot imagine). John happens to be going to the Jazz game with Dad on Tuesday night. Peg decides to wait to make her recipe until Wednesday. Mom saves the whites in a jar (so Peg doesn't have to return the container) and sends them to the game with Dad for the 'egg exchange.' Think of the savings!"
