Quitting vs. Letting Go
I've been pondering something lately and I'm curious as to your thoughts. What is the difference between quitting (with its negative connotation) and knowing when to let go (better connotation)? How do you know when there's still something worth fighting for, or when it's smarter/wiser/better to let something go?

In my opinion quitting implies that you no longer want to do the work involved to keep something going while learning to let go implies that you no longer want the effects of something in your life that is unhealthy and has no potential to grow. While they are both emotional decisions, quitting is often impulsive whereas the decision to let go takes a long time to arrive at.
Excellent question. For me it has many answers and depends on the situation. For example, some battles with my kids I have to let go of. There have been things in my marriage that I have had to let go of. It doesn't mean my marriage isn't worth fighting for, but sometimes there are things inside of it that have to be let go of so that the marriage can work. Same with the relationship with my kids. For me, quitting has a definite final end, whereas, letting go of something often means that something else can grow or become stronger in it's place. I don't know if that is making any sense.
Sometimes I think it's so hard to know when to let go of something or to quit. At times I have thought that I have known the answer to that and made a decision only to find out later that I should have held on longer. Or I hold on way too long when I should have let go. I think the only way to know when to quit or to let go is through lots and lots of prayer. Tough stuff.
I find it interesting that when I looked up the word quit the word permanent was used to describe it.
I'm interested to see what other people have to say about this.
Thanks so much for your thoughts, ladies! Very articulate and very beautifully put. Tracy, I love this: "letting go of something often means that something else can grow or become stronger in its place." Beautiful. And so true! And I'm hoping extra true in my case! :)
