In our extended family, we have the famous egg-white exchange story, where my aunt Jo's cheapness (this is SO beyond frugality) has coined a Jergensen cultural term. Read on.
"Have you ever priced eggs? If not, they are approximately 89 cents per dozen or roughly 7 cents an egg. Consider the following dilemma: On Monday Mom (Jo) is making a recipe that calls for egg yokes and Peg is planning on making a recipe sometime this week that calls for egg whites . . . she's flexible on the day (how they know this about each other, we cannot imagine). John happens to be going to the Jazz game with Dad on Tuesday night. Peg decides to wait to make her recipe until Wednesday. Mom saves the whites in a jar (so Peg doesn't have to return the container) and sends them to the game with Dad for the 'egg exchange.' Think of the savings!"
