Best. Vet. Ever.

Our vet called last night about 8 pm to see how Kobe was doing. The gals at the front desk have been calling every morning checking up on Kobe, seeing if we had any questions or wanted to run anything by Dr. Coward, but he called himself last night and was both hilarious and awesome.

He said he gets too nervous after this particular surgery to call for a few days (the complication of fecal incontinence, if it happened, would probably present itself within the first 48 hours). We mentioned to him something we were concerned about and he told us to bring Kobe in on his lunch break today. His lunch break, people! So we show up and he took us to the back (tiny turtles were back there--so cute!) and took a peek. Everything's good to go so far! What was concerning us turned out to be a minor complication that's benign: when the anal glands are taken out, sometimes the body fills that now-empty cavity with fluid or watery-blood, and then over the period of a month or so, the body will empty that out. So that explains the swelling and redness and his scooting.

But Dr. Coward was thrilled with the sutures, the healing of the incisions, and of course, Kobe's energy level and constant tail-wagging! That never changes. =) The sutures come out in one more week, and hopefully he'll be set from here on out and we won't be at the vet's every two weeks for eight months, as much as we love them there.

Seriously, though, I can't say enough about this vet. I'm SO glad we decided to make a switch, and I'm SO glad we found this guy. He is absolutely fantastic.

That's just not a normal vet at all, but that's FANTASTIC!

I forgot to put in a couple tidbits about our awesome vet! When we took Kobe in, Dr. Coward kept saying, "I feel so much better, seeing Kobe and seeing how well he's doing," as though WE were doing HIM the favor! He didn't charge us for this little visit, and he kept making us feel as though HE was the lucky one! He also gave us some powder to put on his bum so it'll stop itching--also no charge! And all this, in addition to the fact that he's letting me pay whenever I can for the surgery, in whatever installments I can make, knowing I'm unemployed. Holy cow, this man is amazing.

The other thing that really impresssed me? He took us to the back and checked out Kobe, and we could see everything back there, their whole operation at the clinic. The other vet, if you even so much as LOOKED down the hallway, like you wanted to look in the back, they got mad at you and told you to wait in the lobby. It's a totally different place here. And I love it.
