Back when I was 18-ish, my friends gave me a lot of flak for my driving--specifically for my stops. I would come to a complete stop, wait a second or two (and yes, sometimes longer), and then go. I endured some serious teasing. One day when some friends were meeting at my house for lunch, one friend got pulled over a few streets down for doing the "California Roll" at the stop sign. Quite an expensive lunch trip. My friends kept saying if she'd done a "Laura Stop" she would've been ticket-free. =)
A couple months ago I was with some friends going to FHE, and they gave me some flak for my ridiculous stops. It's true: I still do them. But considering I've personally seen five people being pulled over at the stop sign by our park IN THE LAST MONTH, I kind of have to be. We have two stop signs within a few streets of ours, and cops are camped out all the time (one motorcycle cop camps out in the park, near the playground equipment to really be super sneaky).
About a week ago, while I was walking Kobe, I saw the motorcycle cop pull over TWO folks--just on our little 20-minute walk! Once as we heading out on the walk, and once on our way back. Unfortunately, Kobe has this thing with motorcycles and barked at the cop the whole time we walked by him. I grabbed his snout on the way back so he wouldn't bark at the cop again and get us a ticket. Can you imagine?
Moral of the story? Do a "Laura Stop" whenever you're near the stop signs by my house. And don't come over on a motorcycle.

if i had a "brooke stop" it would be going through the stop sign next to my house at 30 mph. they put it up after i went to college so i figure it doesn't apply to me.
So, I have to say you're blog is so funny! You have officially been added to my list of people I stalk... Hope you dont mind :) And Wanda? SHe was telling me about her 1/2 naked husband and her yearly wild trips to Puerta Vallarta... Wanna be like her when I"m old. :)
Brooke, your logic is flawless--I love it!
Suzette! Welcome! Stalk away! Although it's not really stalking if the blogger knows about it, right? So we're stalk-free blog-tracking friends, the way I look at it. And how on EARTH did I miss that Wanda talk--that is CLASSIC! Kathy Jo was pretty fantastic, too, though, and we got bits of Lou every once in a while. Really, that's all you need. (Do you know the classic story of the quilting women driving to their cabin or whatever, and making a deal that Lou would go for one minute without talking? She lasted ten seconds!)
Once, I was in the car with a group of friends. The guy that was driving was from California. He went through a stop sign in a rolling fashion, and I said, "Hey, do you know what we call that here?" And he said, "Yeah, a California Stop." (I would've actually called it a "California Rolling Stop," but I figured that he was close enough). "What do you call it there?" I asked. His reply? "We just call it a stop."
I participate in the "Laura Stop," too. Better safe than sorry! That's why I like you!
