I saw Eric Johnson tonight at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. The guy is an unbelievable guitar player--king of tone and variance and technique in his songs. He can shred, sure, but he's more concerned about melodies. Below is a video of my favorite song of his with a super-extended intro. Ignore the shirt (what the?!) and the highlights (again, what the?), and if ten minutes of a guitar instrumental is too long for you, then skip to 4:49 where the song as I know it starts.
Prepare to be blown away. I love it!

Oh my goodness, I'm glad you got to see him. My favorite song (and well only song I know) or his is Cliffs of Dover (now of Guitar Hero III fame). Embarrassing I know. But once I heard it, I downloaded it and listened to it a million times.
OH...and turns out that that video IS of him playing Cliffs of Dover. I was listeneing to only minute one and two of it when I made that comment. Now the awesomeness of the song began and I'm thining, "Oh wow, I must sound dumb."
Ha ha! Morgan, you're awesome. Isn't the song fantastic? I can't believe it's almost 20 years old. I can play about half of it on the guitar. All the slower parts, of course. =)
