Today I decided to catch my home ward because I rarely get to visit anymore. Mom left before I got up because she was speaking in another ward, and then we were going to meet in the home ward. I walk in a few minutes early, spot her, and see this uncharacteristically HUGE grin on her face. I'm thinking, seeing me might be slightly exciting for her, but THIS BIG OF A GRIN? I turn the corner of pews, and she stands, doing a mini-curtsey, emphasizing her skirt.
My heart sank.
We were wearing the exact same outfit. Our new favorite skirts from Ann Taylor that we got on final sale for $15, with black jackets and black shoes. Yep. We did it. WE WORE THE SAME EXACT OUTFIT TO CHURCH.
Major faux pax.
We've done this to smaller degrees many times, wearing jeans and a black shirt, khakis and a white shirt, whatever. We have a lot of similar basics and we look similar without meaning to, but that's kind of okay. This was not.
Yet it was hilarious. We were laughing through most of the opening hymn. Not good and reverent, but we were entertained.

I think the image of anyone's mom doing a curtsy is the icing on the cake of this whole story.
Hilarious. I can totally picture it. Did other people comment?
Your mom's got great style, then!!! I've never done the matchy-matchy with my mother, but Christina and I did wear the exact same green dress from Target to church last summer. Needless to say, it looked waaaaay better on her, and I never wore it again! I think it's now part of Heather's wardrobe. :)
That is a great story, and the curtsy please doesn't get any better than that!
Ha ha! Morgan, you're so right!
Wendy, the only comment I heard directly was from the dear Melody Carruth, and it was, in true Sister Carruth fashion, a classy comment. (she was wearing an ivory-colored dress with an ivory-colored long coat and ivory heels--so classy, that woman!)
Oh dear. Mom and I were matchy-matchy! Quite the term you've coined, Christa! =)
Tara, so true! I didn't even realize how hilarious the curtsy part was until the comments here!
