My dear friend, Morgan, of soon-to-get-her-mission-call fame, IM'd me a link to this picture of a rejection letter tonight. Holy cow! I'm so glad we live in 2009 and not 1938.
That has got to be the cruelest rejection letter I have ever read. Talk about tacky! I saw your comment on my blog, I should really comment on your blog way more often because I think yours is just so funny, and you also write as you speak - except you're a lot more grammatically correct when you do it. :)
And I'm glad you're enjoying the wonderful weather out there in LB. It just seems wrong not to!!!
Their movies are sexist so it's not surprise their old hiring standards were too. How many times has Disney victimzed some damsel in distress who can only be rescued by a prince with a bad haircut or some other furry creature?
Except Philip. Now HE'S dreamy. He killed a dragon with a sword and takes his woman dancing. Can't beat that.
And why aren't any of the wicked witches ever men? These questions need anwering people.
Well I think the male "wicked witches" can count as Jafar, Hades, Clayton (if an animal poacher is considered a modern version of a witch), Captain Hook (what's more evil than a pirate? Will Turner and Jack Sparrow aside), Gaston (talk about a chauvinistic creep, Govenor Radcliffe...I can go on. These are more
It seems that when women are the central focus of the story, their antagonist is usually female as well (Ariel/Ursella, Snow White/Witch, Cinderella/Step Mother), and if the lead is male then the antagonist is usually male (Aladdin/Jafar, Hercules/Hades, Peter Pan/Cap'n Hook)...Although there are exceptions to all these rules so just ignore everything I just wrote.
Wendy, I love the "bad haircut" bit! And go Morgan! You're so fan-freaking-tastic. You know your Disney like nobody else. I think you and Wendy should debate just for my entertainment--it'd be awesome. Two super-intelligent gals who've got their stuff down.
I thought about Disney's male antagonizers and they usually have more interesting back-stories than their female counterparts. Like what's up with Maleficent? She was absolutely the most evil villain and we have no reason as to why she is so evil and it's not simply because she didn't get invited to Aurora's baby shower. WHY wasn't she invited?
They need to do for Sleeping Beauty what they did for The Wizard of Oz. It would be titled... Maleficent!

Wow, that post of mine is filled with all sorts of grammatical and punctuation errors. But I'm too lazy to proofread my work and/or delete it...
